GOLDEN AGE (40'S - 50'S)

To be technical, the Golden Age of comics could really be dated from 1933 - pre 1956. These books are in high demand in all grades. Obviously, of the different eras, these are the most desirable. Let's face it, these books are known by everyone and are starting to fall apart from age. If you have them, from super hero to funny animal, they're money in the bank.

History

The beginning of the Golden Age can be debated endlessly but for our purposes, the Golden Age begins in June,1938. In this month, National Periodic Publishers release a character that will forever change the comic industry. Action Comics 1 is released and we are introduced to the first and probably greatest member of the spandex brigade; Superman. What can I say that hasn't already been said. He is the epitome of everything great about America. The acceptance of an alien, doing what is right for everyone and anyone, I could go on and on. So what if he's 'an overgrown Boy Scout'. He is a true super power with the guts to stand up for what is right.

Eleven months later, National Periodical followed up with another hit. Batman's debut in Detective 27 (May, 1939) brought about another type of hero; the darker hero. One who would blatantly work outside the law for justice. Now we have both the 'good' cop and the 'bad' cop.

Every hero from here on is just an off-shoot. Yeah, the origins change, the gimmicks change, but the basics are there. Super powered or human in peak condition. But who cared?!! The stories were fun and the art was great! And one thing for sure; it was a guys only club!

In All-Star Comics 8, something incredible happened. They let girls into the club. Wonder Woman, a super powered woman from Paradise Island. A hidden race of Amazons, led by Queen Hippolyta in an Utopian society. Now the girls could be heroes too.

Our updated selling list is now on the main selling page. All eras, all genres, one page!
